Designer Kenneth Nicholson is a master of intertwining the romanticism of yesterday with the modernism of today. His AD 2019 collection. aptly titled “Lover From The Bath,” is an extensive collection told in three chapters/three color hues: The Bath (white), Reminiscence (prism) and The Funeral (black). As each model floated on a bed of rose petals, along with a contemporary soul soundtrack, the presentation went from soft to sensual to rugged to current all while maintaining a steady vibe of black masculinity.
From a sea of ruffles to velvet to to seventies inspired separates the deliberation of each garment is liberating and indicative of a time where fluidity is found in almost every aspect of life. But what really tied this collection together was the cohesiveness of an actual collection; this was not a lot that was thrown together but thought out in each and every stitch from start to finish. One of the most consistent constants was the lace detailing which paid homage to the yesteryears of 18th century Europe artistocratic society.
