We spoke with the SneakerGodz honcho about inspiration, why Air Jordans 1’s and what person deserves to receive a pair of his sought after earbuds.
TGD: What was the inspiration for RetroPlugs?
AM: Sneaker, fashion, art and hip-hop go together, hand in hand. Our company has embraced being a product of our environment. Incorporating music I’ve listened to since I was a kid, combined with a staple in fashion, the Retro Plugs was created.
TGD: Walk us through a typical work day of Antwon Moore?
AM: I wake up, give thanks I was blessed with another day. Being on the West Coast I get up around 6 am because I feel I’m already behind because where I’m located. I check and respond to emails before I do anything in my creative mode. I look at my vision board to remind myself everyday when I’m pushing for and keeps with the daily grind.
TGD: What makes SG unique from other brands?
AM: Taking strategic risks, we’re not afraid to push the envelope just to create dialogue. So many streetwear brands today are living off pieces from their past collections. I try to be innovative in producing a lifestyle brand from apparel to sneaker wear and now tech.
TGD: What does it mean to be a SG & what are your fave sneakers?
AM: It’s one thing tor rock a pair of sneakers or just like a particular pair, anyone can do that. But it on a whole nother level when you know the story or history behind the sneaker. A true SneakerGod know its not all about high and luxury wear but also the quality, aesthetics and functionality of a sneaker. Some of my all-time favorites are Jordans, Asics, NB, Maxs’, Tretorn and Pumas.
TGD: Describe the idea & strategy behind Jordans and Lagerfeld’s ear buds.
AM: High fashion and streetwear are very similar. Just like high fashion houses, most streetwear lines have a story as well. If your really look at it many luxury lines are incorporating streetwear designs throughout their collection. At the end of the day, fashion is fashion and we’re just having fun with it!
TGD: What is the future of SG?
AM: Continue to break barriers pushing the envelope. We have a coupe of pop-up shops in the works throughout the West Coast showcasing new tech as well as our apparel.
TGD: What advice do you have for young entrepreneurs on how to achieve success?
AM: Stay humble, stay around like minded individuals and never take NO as an answer. The only way an individual won’t be successful and dream won’t comet fruition is if you give up and stop pursuing them.
TGD: If you could get your product in the hands of one person who would it be?
AM: Daymond John. Hands down! He is the epitome of something from nothing. From what he was able to create with all is accomplishments, he became a marketing genius!
