Revamping my dopp and getting my “kit” together isn’t all about chucking all of my existing products and starting completely from scratch. In fact, this process has been a delicate and deliberate exercise in pairing some newer products with tried-and-true standbys I’ll probably always turn to when it comes to my grooming needs/regimen. That said, Carmex Original Lip Balm is a multipurpose essential that I’ve traveled with for over a decade and have no plans of tossing or leaving at home any time soon.
A decades-old lip balm made from a blend of ingredients including menthol, camphor, beeswax, salicylic acid, cocoa butter, and lanolin, Carmex includes a lot of the same ingredients of a lot of the must-have products I have in my dopp kit and in my medicine cabinet at home. These beneficial ingredients allow Carmex transcend the parameters of lip care and do more than protect and heal chapped or sore lips in the severe winter months.
Since 1937, Carmex has been used to heal cuts, burns and minor abrasions and to soothe and ease the pain and itch of bug bites – even more reason for a gentleman on the move this summer to pack a tin or a tube. For over a decade, I’ve used small dabs of the time-tested balm (in tandem with other products) to treat blemishes and breakouts, to moisturize cuticles, and even smooth sometimes-unruly eyebrows – a valuable tip I picked up from a men’s magazine a few years back.
For its versatility, affordability, and all-purpose grooming quality, original Carmex is one old school grooming basic that’s earned its rep. Call it the cost effective OG of the personal care crew.
The Take Away: Whether it’s for your lips, elbows, knees, or anyplace in between, invest in a balm that’s not only travel-friendly, but also able to serve double and triple duty when it comes to your skincare and personal care needs.
