With age, I’ve learned more and more the importance of wearing the right fragrance. I’ve become so aware of how well a scent “wears” throughout the day; how it compliments my body chemistry and just how powerful the afternote of the right cologne can be just a memorable as a smile or a hug. No matter how hot it is, no matter where I roam, I can’t be caught without a spritz or spray of something that showcases my understanding of these lessons.
This summer, my signature fragrance of choice is Zara’s Summer Collection Pour Homme. Based in notes of lemon and mint with a notable floral undertone similar to its seasonal cohort from the brand, the scent is perfectly suited for summer days and summer nights collectively, whether you’re headed to the beach or the office.
Like past summer personal favorites like Givenchy’s Gentleman Only Casual Chic and Issey Miyake’s Leau De Issey, Zara’s fragrance expertly delivers when it comes to staying power and presence. Warmer weather typically causes you to lose a fragrance as you sweat, but Zara’s lingers freshly until you wash it off – even in swampy conditions. As for presence, the scent maintains a great balance between being distinctly masculine yet light and sensual enough to get you noticed. The citrusy spice and freshness are the perfect seasonal departure from the woodsy, warmer standbys we’ll revisit come fall.
In the meantime, stick with a cologne that’s light and bright in presentation, but all man in essence.
The Take Away: Prefer to save the citrus for your summer drinks or salads? No judgment, but consider claiming a signature scent for the season with a cool, crisp bouquet. If you’re not too fond of florals either, there are a number of fragrances that play up more blends of green, herbal, and lightly smoky notes that are still appropriate this time of year.
