Style writer Brandon Vaughn shares his Summer grab bag of toiletries that works for every occasion.
Summer is in full swing, and for a large number of us, travel is on the horizon. Mapping out the travel days ahead, it seems like I’ve managed to steal away just enough time to spend a few humid weekends across the south, living out of a small duffle and making memories with the folks I’m close to.
While I pride myself on having perfected my packing game when it comes to short trips, I’ve got to get something off of my chest before we go any further: my dopp kit is a MESS.
Sure, I was raised to always remember the essentials like deodorant, toothpaste, and the rest of the items I need to stay fresh. But somewhere along the way, whether it was the snatch-and-grab runs down the travel aisle at a big box store, those hotel-supplied bottles of products I just couldn’t part with after my stay, or that influx of free samples I just couldn’t turn down, my collection of cleaning and grooming products has become utterly chaotic.
When it comes to the toiletries I travel with, believe me when I say that it’s literally a mixed bag – a shameful mélange of new and old; department store and drugstore; gifted and lifted; brand new and beyond expired. As a resident style writer here at The Gentleman’s Daily and a self-professed gentleman-in-training who’s still finding his way, I know better and it’s time to do better. I mean, what good is a well-curated look if the man wearing it doesn’t have his grooming gear in check?
This summer, follow me as I finally man up and get my kit together. From skincare to hair care, I’ll build an arsenal by summer’s end suitable for the pages of GQ…or at least one last day trip before September rolls around. Amid new finds, I’ll also share some of my favorite standbys that comprise my grooming holy grail. So here goes nothing, Gentlemen. Here’s to the products that will carry me from day trips to road trips and everything and everwhere in between. Here’s to getting my kit together for once and for all.
