2014 is turning out to be a stellar year for Agape Mdumulla and Sam Cotton of Agi & Sam. Aside from launching a capsule collection at Topman and winning the BFA Emerging Menswear Designer Award, the duo have been rewarded with an incredible opportunity to collaborate with British brand Grenson and the result is fantastic: a double monk-strap mixed with suede and textured leathers.
Sponsored by London Collections and MR PORTER, the project features six up-and-coming London-based menswear designers and pairs them with the heritage brand to reinterpret classic shoes but with a new twist. Putting aside their usually patterned heavy aesthetic, Agi & Sam were able to take a staple product and modernized it to not only appeal to the knatty gentleman but their audience.
In a interview with The Journal, the duo states”We tried to reinterpret the classic black shoe using various elements such as classic leathers. With the use of a solid black sole, we were able to add an element of sportswear to the piece.”
Other designers include Miller, Katie Eary and Sibling.
